Da Seamus Blackley i njegova ekipa za hardver nisu odbacili nazive bazirane na anagramima, originalni Xbox se, između ostalog, mogao zvati Microsoft FACE – što je značilo Full Action Center. Ili, alternativno, Microsoft O2 (Optimal Ozone), MEA (Microsoft Entertainment Activator), OM (Odyssey of the Mind) ili bilo koji drugi čudni naziv. Blackley je izjavio da, dok je ime Xbox bilo korišteno kao skraćenica za DirectX Box u mailovima, to je jedini naziv koji je ‘preživio’ proces odabira imena od četiri faze.
